I’ve written a book that should help relieve survivors of the guilt and shame of mental illness while dispelling common myths behind the pervasive stigma. The book chronicles my search for the roots of a crippling depression that struck in mid-life. Only by learning the roots of my illness from the distant past in an alcoholic family was I able to recover and rid myself of destructive guilt that it was somehow my fault. The book also describes the challenges I faced regarding proper diagnosis and treatment in our inadequate mental healthcare system. I think my story will resonate with millions who struggle to recover and will provide empathy, hope and strength. The book cites a lot of recent evidence about the effects of childhood trauma in causing subsequent mood disorder/mental illness.

I feel my book supports the mission and objectives of MindFeedom and I'm hoping that someone here would be willing to review it, ideally a professional in the field. I'm a fairly new member of MFI so I don't know many people. The title of my book is, It's Not All in Your Head: Unearthing the Deep Roots of Depression. Since I'm not a professional in mental health, the book is essentially a personal essay using my experiences to illustrate broader themes.
