EMOTIONAL PAIN after ECT

Cry from the heart of a Mother/Grandmother and soon to be Great-Grandmother

or maybe she already is a great-grandmother, only they would know.

(The Emotional Pain is very different and without understanding!)

So, What’s Their Preference?

The way she was years ago, or the way she is today? Just who would or is benefiting by either?

What about Family Communications?

Granddaughter # one has already admitted to not knowing her grandma. Doesn’t know how to talk to her, doesn’t know what to talk about.

Where are the children/grandchildren?

Shooting and Protest

A University of Florida student from the African country of Ghana, Kofi Adu-Brempong, allegedly 'psychotic' for a year or so, was shot in the face by a police officer last Wednesday here in Gainesville, Florida. In the hospital, Kofi's condition was recently upgraded from critical to serious. Kofi was said to have had polio as a child, and moved around with the aid of a cane. Charges of police brutality have been leveled against the officers involved in the shooting and arrest. A press conference was held about this shooting Saturday, and a protest has been planned a couple of weeks from now.

Friendly Hello

I just wanted to post a friendly hello to everyone out there in MyMFI land! I am an intern for MFI and happy to be aboard!!

Warmongers are dangerous to themselves and others

Communication should be a required subject in grade schools, the history of language styles, and the history of wars. We need to eliminate war completely because we cannot afford the consequences; we never could; Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Pearl Harbour and the horrible underwater testing and underground testing events are self destructive because the impact on the environment is so devastating. Farmers of any culture know immediately the effects of war not just the disruption but the poor contaminated soil, the contaminated water, and the air that doesn't return to normal if ever.

Does It Ever End?

What I mean is: does the trauma ever end after having had ECT? Over the holidays I experienced trauma when realizing I had no memory of having visited my mother in the nursing home. I also have not memory of having lost both of my parents, and my in-laws within a 15 month period of time. I spent time with family members that I had not seen for over 11 years. While at their home, my brother and sister-in-law spoke of the time period I mentioned. I couldn't even get a picture the size of a pin head in my mind. There is no memory of those days.

Intentionally Dispaced Person

Hello World,

Today I start a Journal about my work in Kenya as a Human rights activists pushing for legislative reforms in the mental health system in Kenya.

I came back to Kenya after many years living in the US (in January of 2007) to establish an organization-MindFreedom Kenya, for the past two years much was accomplished in creating awareness about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities(UN CRPD) however the fight still continues.

The Drug Ads Make Me Sick!

Everyday there seems to be more Drug Ads. All the Drug Ads tell you to "Ask Your Doctor" if this could be what you need. Why are they allowed to creep into everyone's life and dump poison after poison in our homes. What is wrong with our government? I really wonder.

I watch as these Drug Ads tell young girls that its alright to miss your period for 3 or more months. It is not alright! These drug pushers are playing with human bodies and tainting young women with unscientific facts and by the law-suits one can see the disasterous outcomes.

Kickbacks and human rights abuses in old people's/disabled people's homes

Vulnerable people need defenders of their rights. It is not unusual for families to become burdened with the extra stress and work involved in caring for an older person or handicapped person so since the creation of institutions, people have been dumped with idealistic hopes on the part of their families into classically run institutions. Working families in particular have found the demands of modern upwardly mobile lifestyles require someone to deal with breakdown of idealism through incarceration in homes for the mentally handicapped/(old term mentally retarded), homes for the aged/(old term: for the elderly), transition houses for those caught in addiction or youth rejected for rebellion.

DISS ME NOT In Canada

This blog is dedicated to the clients from Dawson Court lodge that I met while working as a nurse's aide during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Anne Geddes, George Maycock, Miss Herd, little Doris, and Miss Friday were some of the vibrant characters that spent the end of their lives as disabled citizens living in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

I was not a mental health client then but shortly after I was diagnosed with narcolepsy and given amphetamines.

On Not Seeking Concensus

Isn't it funny how some statements draw an absolute blank from people reading those statements? I'm wondering sometimes, how to get a skin reaction, but I figure if I just keep at it eventually it will come. Somebody is going to wake up, blink their eyes, and go, "What? Am I actually reading what I'm reading. This can't be right. I must do something about this."
